May 20th. West Salt Lake City, Utah.--Raul Sanchez shots up to the top of the top of the Premiership leading scorer logt with a fine performance as Olympique Montreux FC defeated Forza FC 6-0. The young goleador scored his second hot trick of the season and came close to score twice more. With 8 goals on his counter in five games, Raul is on his way to be one of the best marksmen for the Olympians since a certain Bel-Ami netted 38 goals in the 2003 season.
Raul’s goals came in the 14th minute of the first half and in the 7th and 17th minutes of the second half.
“we moved Raul from left midfield to center forward to take advantage of his speed and keen sense for goals,” said Bel-Ami. “We feel that in this new position, he should be even more effective.”
Veteran defender Steve McMurdie scored a wonder goal from 30 yards out when he collected a pass from Francisco Garay who performed a Houdini act, leaving a three men pack in the dust. Steve, OM’s 2010 MVP, returned to the side this season after a long absence. "Once an Olympian always and Olympian,” said Assistant coach Andres Pena of the quality defender who just meshes into the team despite a nearly 6 years layoff.
The highlight of the afternoon, however, came from attacking midfielder Omar Jaimes who delivered his usual Superman performance. The “Elegant OJ” as Bel-Ami likes to call Omar, was omnipresent from side to side and from box to box, calling the shots and powering the Olympian’s machinery.
While not one to score often, in the 25th minute, OJ cleared space in the box to find the net as he had forecasted.
in the second half, Dennis Sellis travelled from his central defensive position twice to force the Forza defense into emergency alert. On his third attempt in the 80th minute, the giant former forward who remade himself into a potent defender slammed dunked the ball into the net despite the efforts of the opposing keeper.
This performance was the Olympians and keeper Martin Martinez's second clean sheet since their disappointing lost to Longo-di-Lazio FC a fortnight ago.
The side will now prepare to travel north to face the powerful and fit Ogden Wildcats of Weber State University on June 3. Keeper Jorge Gonzalez will have his hands full as he is projected to return from his two games suspension.
It is worth mentioning that with the maturity of the team to perform their game plan lately, we notice coach Bel-Ami is screaming less from the sidelines and actually sits down from time to time.
Tomorrow at 2:30 pm at the Regional Athletic Complex, field #7 OMFC faces Longo FC (former Lazio) for the Super Cup Final.
Longo FC is a very though team to beat, OMFC will need to be careful and play smart to be able to compete against such a great team.
Weather forecast says its going to be a perfect day for soccer, 80 degrees and cloudy.
